Sodium Hyaluronate: Deep Hydration and Healing for Sensitive Skin

Sodium Hyualuronate or Hyaluronic Acid

Sodium hyaluronate, a form of hyaluronic acid, is a highly effective ingredient for hydrating and soothing acne-prone and rosacea-prone skin. As the sodium salt of hyaluronic acid, sodium hyaluronate has a smaller molecular size, allowing it to penetrate deeper into the skin compared to other forms of hyaluronic acid. This deeper hydration helps improve skin elasticity and repair the skin barrier, making it particularly beneficial for sensitive, inflamed, and compromised skin types.

Hyaluronic acid comes in several forms, each with unique properties. High molecular weight hyaluronic acid sits on the surface of the skin, providing immediate hydration and a plumping effect. Low molecular weight hyaluronic acid, like sodium hyaluronate, can penetrate deeper layers of the skin to offer long-lasting moisture and improve skin health from within. A study in Dermatologic Surgery highlighted that low molecular weight hyaluronic acid improves skin hydration and elasticity more effectively than its higher molecular weight counterpart, making sodium hyaluronate an excellent choice for deeper skin concerns like acne and rosacea.

For acne-prone skin, sodium hyaluronate’s ability to deeply hydrate without clogging pores is crucial. Acne treatments can often dry out the skin, leading to irritation and increased sebum production. Sodium hyaluronate helps restore moisture balance, reducing the risk of breakouts while maintaining skin health. A study in Clinical, Cosmetic, and Investigational Dermatology found that sodium hyaluronate can aid in healing the skin barrier, reducing redness and inflammation in acne-prone skin.

Rosacea-prone skin also benefits from sodium hyaluronate's soothing and hydrating effects. Its deep hydration helps strengthen the skin barrier, which is often compromised in rosacea, reducing redness and sensitivity.
